Reading Persephone

This is one of my favourite spots in the house to read. I was just starting A House in the Country by Jocelyn Playfair but in the end I ran upstairs to grab The Village by Marghanita Laski instead. I'm quite near the end and really enjoying it, I'm so impressed by some of the other participants that are managing a book a day! I'm blaming my shortcomings on Deacon, whose pleading eyes and whimpering have me in the park more than on the couch!

  1. That is a wonderful reading corner! I'm sure the plenty of light and comfy couch make the reading even more enjoyable (if that's possible.)

    Greetings,
    Ivy

  2. What a nice reading corner--perfect light and it looks so comfy. I'm not very far along in House Bound, but I am enjoying it. Working all week pretty much precludes me from thinking of reading a book a day (and I probably couldn't manage it even if I was on vacation--I tend to read slowly). It's nice hearing about everyone else's reading, though! I thought of reading The Village, but couldn't decide--you'll have to let us know how it went!

  4. Ivy, During the colder months it's always a cheery, warm spot to read.

Danielle, Glad to hear you're enjoying your book, it's one that I'd like to order at some point. It has been a lot of fun reading the reviews coming in and there'll be lots more as the week continues.

JoAnn, I loved that Claire was drinking Earl Grey tea whilst reading her Persephone.

  5. Looks like a perfect reading spot...nice and comfy with good light. Once our golden got older, it was easier to appease her by holding the book with one hand and petting her with the other. Of course, she wasn't very patient when it came to turning the page:) So glad you are still enjoying your read.

  6. I'm impressed you're already near the end! Does this mean you'll be squeezing another Persephone in before the end of the week? K x

  7. Book Psmith, Ah yes, I know that situation well, poor things.

Kristina, I'm really going to try! Minnie's Room is a wee slip of a book so you never know, I may just make it. D x

  8. Perfect! I love it and I love "meeting" you! I have worn grey all week (as well as drinking Earl Grey) as it seems so appropriate.

Delighted that you are enjoying The Village; I need more Laski in my life.

  9. That looks so cozy. I've finished with my two planned Persephones this week and have nothing else on hand, but next time I'll come armed with more.

  10. Paperback Reader, Well, I figured it would be nice to put a face to the blog and show off my grey T-shirt too:) Another vote for more Laski please!

claire, These past few days have seen my Persephone wish list grow. You've done well to get through two already, I'm impressed!

  12. Wonderful place to read. I love to see favorite reading spots. I've been amazed to see how much people have read. I had great intentions of reading at least one, but didn't even accomplish that, having gotten lost in another book. A House in the Country was one I didn't care for so much. I wrote a book report if you'd like to read it:
