Teapot Mittens

With the sweltering temperatures we've been experiencing these last couple of weeks the thought of knitting has been less than inspiring.  With plans to knit another cardigan being shelved for now my thoughts turned to an adorable teapot mitten.  Stopping into Romni Wools on one of our trips to Toronto last week I was drawn to this cheery bright pink hue.  When it's finished it will look like this...

I can already picture changing up the colours to suit the season.

  1. That's so much fun! You could have a whole set in different colours to match different teacups!

  2. Lovely. (Though I might have thought of it as a vest, what with the buttons.)

Okay, fess up. How much other yarn did you get at Romni?

  3. I.want.one.

I bet your house is full to the brim with adorableness, and it's about to get even better with the addition of the teapot mitten!

  4. How cool. I love the little buttons. It makes me want to go drink tea. By the way, unless I was imagining it--when I checked into google reader yesterday, I swear there was a post here showing your ring, but now I don't see it. If I wasn't imagining it--it was stunning! :)

  5. verity, I've really come to love one skein projects. I'll let you know if this is an easy pattern...you may like to give it a go yourself one day!

Susan, LOL! My haul consisted on just two balls of Felted Tweed, one pink and one blue...hand on heart. I think the designer called it a mitten because there's a gusset for the spout resembling a thumb but I do love the idea of a vest for my teapot!

booksnob, If you have a knitter close by then I could mail you a copy of the pattern OR if you send me a photo of your teapot I can see whether or not I can swing one for you!

Danielle, You weren't imagining things...that was it! I just posted a pic so those that asked for a peek could see and then off it went. Glad you liked it...I can't quite believe it's mine!

  6. Teapot mittens are news to me, but they sure are adorable! Love the idea of having one in every color to match your cups.

  7. I couldn't think what you meant by 'a teapot mitten' until I saw the picture. That is so cute! Pretty colour, too.

  8. That is brilliant! My teapot could use a mitten, I am highly prone to making a pot of tea and then intermittently forgetting about it.
PS Am intrigued by the book you are reading, London belongs to me - sounds great!

  9. JoAnn, This pattern was designed by a university student putting off writing a paper. In this case, it was a pretty good use of time!

Penny, The pattern is on Ravelry if you are a knitter...it's a fabulous website!

Jane, Do you knit? The pattern is on ravelry.com if you'd like to make one! And oh my goodness, London Belongs to Me is a terrific read! It's a chunkster but well written and the characters are fab-u-lous!

  10. I'm on ravelry! My name is 'cosyevenings'! ('Penny' was taken, so they asked me to think of something I liked, to be my user name instead...) And yes, I do knit. :)

  11. this is perfect - i need one! I like the idea of different coloured mittens depending on the season. I have a tea cosy from Cath Kidston that is a little cottage in design - but a mitten would keep my tea even more cosy! Are they easy to make? As I must get my needles out again.

  12. Now that is lovely. So lovely that you have almost inspired me to become a tea drinker after years as a refusenik. And that little row of buttons offers possibilities too...

  13. Bloomsbury Bell, It's not a difficult pattern but you have to pay attention to the fact that you start off on double pointed needles in the round but then knit back and forth as if on straight needles (allows for the teapot handle). I must look up that Cath Kidston tea cosy!

fleurfisher, Cute isn't it! You don't drink tea?....really?
