Anyone for Gissing?

The swish of silk is calling so I've pulled The Odd Women from my shelves.  Gosh, that sentence would fit one of StuckInABook's memes perfectly!  I digress.  Despite my sidebar showing that I am currently reading George Gissing's book it will actually be a couple of days before I crack the cover.  So if anyone is in the mood for Victorian London and has been dying for an excuse to give this title a go, please feel free to join along.  It has four five-star reviews on Amazon....

  1. I bought it months ago, Darlene, and still haven't started it. I thought I might choose it for book group as my turn is coming up. So will be very interested to hear how you get on.

  3. The Odd Women has been on my wish list for several years. I spied your post this morning and added a stop at B&N to today's errands. Surprisingly, they had a copy. Disappointing that it was a Penguin Classics edition with paper so thin the print from the back showed through to the front... making it nearly impossible to read. Will be curious to hear what to you think of it.

  4. I loved The Odd Women so I hope you enjoy it. I was confused looking at the book in your sidebar because my Penguin edition of Arnold Bennett's The Old Wives' Tale has the same painting!

  5. The Odd Women is available as a free download from Project Gutenberg, for those of you with e-readers. I downloaded a copy after reading your post, Darlene.

joan, You'll have to keep me posted...do you plan on reading it asap?

  8. I LOVED this when I read it a couple of years ago. If my copy wasn't in a box in my mum's attic I'd reread along with you. I know you'll really enjoy it and I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
