Thank You Danielle!

R has just come in with the mail and a small tub of Haagen-Daz ice cream. The real treat was finding this bookmark from Danielle! She kindly offered five bookmarks for a draw on her blog, A Work in Progress, and I was so lucky as to have won this one. The artwork is entitled 'Reading on the Rocks' by John George Brown and just so happens to be set on a resort island in New Brunswick. Perfect for a Canadian like me! Kristina and I are reading the next book in our Across the Pond book club for two starting tomorrow. It's a Persephone title, Saplings, and as I opened it tonight I noticed that it was missing the bookmark they usually come with. Great timing Danielle, thank you so very much, I love it!

  1. OOh Saplings is great! I think it was my first Persephone book, borrowed from the library back in about 2003? I recently bought a copy (in a dreadful 3 for 2 offer!), and have it on my to-be-reread pile...

  2. It is such a lovely bookmark.

I have Saplings on my TBR pile (well, on the Persephone shelf actually) and look forward to your thoughts.

  3. A Persephone shelf..I like that idea. I'm not liking the way my Persephones are disappearing into the regular bookshelves as I read them.

  4. I loved Saplings, that family was so like all her vicarage families in the children's books ... only gone wrong! If you're enjoying it, you might also like Marghanita Laski's To Bed with Grand Music - about the impact of war on a marriage - hard to track down, but Persephone is to republish it soon.

  6. verity, my husband was asking me this morning if I've decided to take advantage of that 3 for 2 offer. I told him about you going for it. Were your ears burning this afternoon?:)

Paperback Reader, will definitely post what I think about Saplings. I'm just about to leave for work but must have a peek at your Persephone shelf post once I get back home!

Anonymous, that's exciting news about the upcoming Marghanita Laski book! Thanks for the heads up.

  7. Oh no! How could it be missing the bookmark? Would you like me to send you one?

In the meantime, I better get started. You're already ahead of me! K x

  8. Lol - it is very hot in Oxford (particularly when one has raced up the High to buy strawberries to make ice cream) so they may have done. I haven't yet confessed to my boyfriend, and not sure whether he's read my blog or given up on it...

  9. Kristina, Are you planning a trip into London anytime soon? That would be lovely if you could send one along. If it's going to be trouble then I could just order one from here.
