Do you have a copy of William by E.H. Young, languishing on your shelves? Well if you do and you're nearing the end of your current read you are more than welcome to join Simon from StuckInABook and me in a read-along.
I found my copy at Nostalgia Books last weekend and know absolutely nothing about E.H. Young so this will be my initiation into her work. Reading along with someone always doubles the fun when you wonder what they thought of a particular scene or witty remark. And with a description such as this from the back cover there is bound to be some...
'Dora ridicules Herbert's devotion; the unmarried Janet seeks her liberty; Mary has made a virtue out of scrimping and saving, and Lydia gads in London with no thought for Oliver.'
Simon and I are aiming to begin around the 12th of this month, please join us if can!
Just that cover would make me want to read this book!

ReplyDeleteJust bought a copy on Ebay. Should be here in a week. Count me in! Looking forward to it. Will there be a schedule?
ReplyDeletegalant, It's absolutely irresistible!
ReplyDeleteGypsy Rose, No schedule at all, just read at your own pace. We can check in with each other along the way to see how we're getting on. Lovely of you to join in!
Oh I wish I could!!! But I am SUPPOSED to be reading American literature!! I will see if the library has it, though..no harm in looking!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could! I just finished Miss Mole and searched my library catalogue for others by Young, but alas, they only have reference copies available!
ReplyDeleteI read this last year & enjoyed it very much. My copy wasn't a beautiful Virago though. I'd like to read more E H Young, in original green Virago editions if possible!
ReplyDeleteLyn, I read your review on your blog which made my mind up for me and yes mine is also a penguin, just like yours.
ReplyDeleteDarlene, thanks for the invitation, I have just purchased a copy (new, VMC) from UK ebay. It will be my first EH Young. Not sure if it will arrive in time to Australia, but if so I will email you my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I have now ordered a copy ...

bookssnob, Of course we would love to have you but I know your plans were laid out months and months ago. You know where to find us though if you decide to swing it!
ReplyDeletemotheretc, Well hopefully we can exchange comments about Miss Mole one day as it sounds like a story I would really enjoy!
lyn, When I spied this one the cover sold me straight away! Please stop by and share your comments once the discussion gets started!
Merenia, Fabulous! With everything else going on in a day I'm not the swiftest of readers so fingers crossed...you'll be right on track with me, Simon, galant and Gypsy Rose Creations.
galant, That's the spirit! Lovely to have you!
Lovely! I love your Virago edition, and the beautiful photograph. I have an old, very plain hardback.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to this; the more the merrier :)
StuckInABook, Hopefully your old, plain hardback was enjoyed by others in the past, Simon. My copy looks as though its previous owner wasn't impressed or interested...it's almost as good as new!
