Niagara-on-the-Lake

The usual question was asked this morning, do we hang around the house and get some chores done or do we have fun? Since R worked yesterday and it was sunny we decided to go for a drive to picturesque Niagara-on-the-Lake. The houses there are quaint beyond belief. In the past, we've strapped our bikes to the van to ride around the town, that way you can take in the architectural detail and landscaping at a slower pace. I've been known to suddenly find my bike tire scraping the curb because I'm not watching where I'm going! We browsed the shops and bought some freshly ground Snickerdoodle coffee. It's chocolate, hazelnut and caramel flavoured, yum. I found some lovely sock wool in a purple semi-solid shade to save for a later date. As I wittered on about the wool I turned to find that R had left me talking to myself, he was waiting on the sidewalk! I looked at the sales clerk "that happens to me all the time" she said. He did buy me a lovely tea mug with roses on it so he can be forgiven. We came upon a bookshop next door to an Irish pub - perfect! R had a pint while I browsed and we met out front when we were done. The cherry on top, quite literally, was a stop for ice cream. R chose Burgundy cherry and I chose strawberry, although, the almond fudge brownie was a close second. A perfect day!

  1. I want snickerdoodle coffee!
Your Sunday sounds perfect although you did neglect to mention whether you bought anything in said bookshop?

  3. Paperback Reader, I did see a copy of Stratton's War by Laura Wilson but I have a hold on it at the library so I resisted. Would you believe that quite a few books were totally encased in cellophane jacketing! Their pristine condition would have made them an ideal purchase if you were certain of their content. The lady running this very small bookshop looked remarkably like Raine Spencer and she was being very watchful so I wasn't about to start peeling the plastic off of the books for a peek. She scared me!

JoAnn, We put a pot on after dinner, it was so delicious! You can find the coffee at the Victorian Tea House if you make it back there one day.

  4. It looks like it was a lovely, sunny day (and hopefully warm, too?). I'd love to wander around a town like that. I've never been a coffee drinker, but then I've never tried a flavor like that! :)

  6. Danielle, It was around 23C and just perfect for me, I don't like it too hot. I'm a huge tea granny but every once in awhile...

verity, It's such a lovely day trip and you pass so many fields of grapes, as far as the eye can see. Niagara is wine country!

  8. It does sound like a perfect day and I agree with other comments...that snickerdoodle coffee sounds so yummy I might have to change my plans to make chocolate chip cookies and pull out my old snickerdoodle recipe:)

  9. Kristina, Haberdashery of any sort will usually make a gentleman's eyes glaze over. On the other hand, I don't come over all excited in a golf shop either!

Book Psmith, I wish that we could have you all over for a cup...or two. You could bring the cookies!
